Boehringer Ingelheim Veterinary Scholar Program
Biomedical Research Opportunities for Veterinary Students. The mission of the Boehringer Ingelheim Veterinary Scholar Program is to expose veterinary students in their first or second year of veterinary school to biomedical research and career opportunities in research. The Boehringer Ingelheim Veterinary Scholar Program culminates in a national symposium where veterinary students participating in the program gather from all over the U.S. and Canada to present their research findings and share experiences from their various programs.  Presentations by and networking opportunities with invited veterinary scientists, researchers and faculty members are also part of the national symposium program.
Through the partnership and commitment to support biomedical research of each veterinary institution and the Boehringer Ingelheim Veterinary Scholar Program, it is hoped that these experiences will stimulate scholars and future veterinarians to consider a career in biomedical research.

Equine Clinical Training Program

The Veterinary Campus of Lyon (VetAgro Sup), first veterinary School to be created in the world, is accredited by the European Association of Establishments for Veterinary Education (E.A.E.V.E.) and is the only veterinary institution in France to offer an Equine Clinical Externship Program for veterinary students in English. From an educational point of view, it opens the doors of our Equine Veterinary Teaching Hospital to international students from all over the world and to French veterinary students who want to improve their knowledge of English before going abroad for further specialization.

About us

For the purpose of clinical training, the Equine Department of Lyon relies on its clinical unit called Clinéquine. It is a fully equipped equine structure established in 1998 as a 24h-referral center for horses requiring specialized medical or surgical care as elective or emergency patients. The facility offers out-patients and in-patient services with accommodation for hospitalization and intensive care. Specialist veterinarians have access to high-tech equipment to perform endoscopy (standing and dynamic), ECG, full range ultrasonography including echocardiography, digital radiography, standing MRI, computed tomography in foals and surgical procedures in two surgery theatres. A Lameness Locator™ is available if required, to assist in the lameness work up. Clinéquine also provides ambulatory services for preventive care, general reproduction, medical care and treatment of horses at the farm.

Equine Clinical Externship We currently offer 10 posts for a period of 1 to 3-months duration:

This rotating externship provides support for our referral services and access to out-of-hours emergency care and first opinion equine cases, thereby offering a suitable initial training program for those wanting an immersion into clinical work and those considering applying for an externship in equine medicine and surgery at Lyon.

Post holders obtain clinical training through participation in all clinical and educational activities.

Educational activities (rounds) are in English but communications with clients or referring veterinarians are conducted in French by the clinicians in charge. 

These posts are open during the period between June 16th and September 14th 2014

Tuition fees are 460€/month for EU and non EU-citizens paid directly to VetAgro Sup
